How long does it take for the Cancellation Fee hold to be released?
Understanding pending holds when a cancellation fee isn’t charged
If a Cancellation Fee is not charged (unused), the hold on your client’s card will typically be released within 1–7 business days, depending on their bank.
In most cases:
- 1–3 business days is common
- Some banks may take up to 5–7 business days
- In rare cases, it can take up to 10 business days
Why does this happen?
When a booking is made, a temporary hold (pre-authorisation) may be placed on the client’s card to secure the cancellation policy.
If the cancellation fee is not triggered or not charged, the hold is simply released by the bank.
The timing is determined by:
- The client’s bank processing times
- The bank’s internal policies
This process is completely controlled by the bank, not HUSL.
What does “unused” mean?
An unused Cancellation Fee hold means:
- The client did not cancel late or no-show, or
- The fee was not applied, so no charge was taken
What should I tell my client?
You can reassure your client with:
“It’s just a temporary hold - since the cancellation fee wasn’t used, your bank will automatically release it within a few days.”
💡 Tips
- If the hold is still showing after 5–7 business days, the client should contact their bank
- The bank can confirm the status of the pending hold
- No money has been taken - it’s only temporarily reserved
✅ Bottom line
If a Cancellation Fee isn’t used, the hold is automatically released by the bank — usually within a few business days.
