Why doesn’t “Optimise Bookings” remove all gaps?
How the Optimise Bookings setting works in HUSL
The Optimise Bookings feature is designed to minimise gaps in your calendar, but it won’t remove every possible gap.
When turned on, Optimise Bookings uses an algorithm to limit the booking options shown to clients. Instead of displaying every available time slot, it offers fewer, smarter options that are more likely to keep your day flowing and reduce unfillable gaps.
Small gaps may still appear - this is expected behaviour.
Why gaps can still happen
Optimise Bookings balances flexibility with efficiency. Some gaps are unavoidable depending on:
-
Your service durations
-
The mix of short and long services
-
Your average service time setting
Under the Optimise Bookings toggle, you’ll see Average Service Time. This setting plays a big role in how gaps are managed.
How Average Service Time affects gaps
-
Setting 30–45 minutes:
-
Prioritises longer services
-
Helps avoid unfillable 15-minute gaps
-
May leave larger gaps for longer bookings
-
-
Setting a shorter average time:
-
Offers more booking options
-
Can increase the chance of small gaps
-
How to get the best results (Step-by-Step)

-
Set Average Service Duration to 30 or 45 minutes to help reduce short gaps
