Why is Stripe asking me for an ACN when I connect it to HUSL?
Understanding Stripe business setup requirements for HUSL payments
Stripe may ask for an ACN depending on how your business is set up during onboarding.
If you select Company as your business type, Stripe will require an ACN.
If you are a sole trader, an ACN is not required — you only need your ABN.
This is a common point of confusion and usually happens when the incorrect business type is selected in Stripe.
When an ACN is required
You will need an ACN if your business is:
-
Registered as a PTY LTD company
-
Operating as a company entity, not an individual
When an ACN is NOT required
You do not need an ACN if you are:
-
A sole trader
-
An independent stylist operating under your own name or business name
In this case, Stripe will ask for:
-
Your ABN
-
Your legal name (as registered with your ABN)
🛠️ How to fix this (Step-by-Step)
-
Log in to your Stripe account
-
Go to Business settings
-
Check the Business type selected
-
If you are a sole trader, select Individual / Sole trader
-
Enter your ABN instead of an ACN
-
Save and continue the Stripe setup in HUSL
💡 Helpful tips
-
Most independent stylists on HUSL are set up as sole traders
-
Double-check your business type selection before proceeding
-
If you accidentally selected Company, Stripe will always request an ACN
