What Is a CSV File?

Understanding CSV files and why HUSL uses them to import client data.

A CSV file (Comma-Separated Values) is a simple text file that stores data in a table format—similar to a spreadsheet. Each piece of information is separated by a comma, making it easy for different software systems to read and transfer information.

HUSL requires a CSV export when importing client data from another software because CSV files are universal, lightweight, and compatible with almost all booking, POS, and CRM systems. This ensures client information is transferred accurately and efficiently.

Why HUSL Requires a CSV File

Using a CSV file allows HUSL to:

  • Standardise data from different platforms

  • Prevent formatting issues during import

  • Streamline the upload process for faster setup

  • Reduce errors when mapping fields like names, emails, services, and visit history

How to Export a CSV File from Your Current Software

While every software is slightly different, the general steps are similar:

  1. Log in to your current software.

  2. Navigate to Clients, Contacts, or Data Management.

  3. Select Export or Download.

  4. Choose CSV as the file format.

  5. Save the file to your computer.

  6. Upload it to HUSL during your client import step.

💡 Tips for a Smooth Import into HUSL

  • Check for duplicates before exporting.

  • Make sure email, phone, and name fields are up to date.
*NOTE: Customers without mobile numbers cannot be imported.

  • Remove any special characters that may cause formatting errors.

If possible, include client notes to ensure a complete transition.
